Caterpillar Describes Large Vee Engines In 12-Page Brochure
The Caterpillar family of 6.25- inch (159 mm) bore Vee-type engines is featured in a new 12-page, four-color catalog. Basic specifications are given for the V16 D399, V12 D398, and V8 D379 diesel engines, and for their gaseous-fueled counterparts. The brochure contains sections describing turbocharging and aftercooling, lubrication, and the Cat adjustment-free diesel fuel system. Full-color cutaway illustrations show cross sections of two of the engines, plus details of valve train and turbocharger/ aftercooler designs. Maintenance features and "CAT PLUS" dealer services are also discussed. Ratings for various applications are listed, all the way up to 1,425 intermittent horsepower for the D399. All three models are also designed for tandem operation, with two engines coupled together to drive a single output shaft.
Marine engines and compatible Cat marine transmissions are approved for certification by all the major international marine classification societies. Cat generator sets, both land-based and marine auxiliaries, are also described and ratings given.
